Nocturne Poem by Eddie Roa

Nocturne

Rating: 5.0

Hark, the footfall of padded paws thud
As twilight wafts its melancholy tune
The traipsing of furtive mannequins into the scene
To start the commerce of the night
Ah, angels on hocked wings mingling in the shuffle
Of insatiable lusts of white, yellow and brown trash

A nightlong stance of enticement and allure
No rest, nor ease through the cold and apathetic dark
No help, no solace from a sometimes provident night
Singles, pairs or even threes they hustle corners
In tatty glad-rags and blackened rouge they sell
Ersatz affection, snatches of bliss to blighted souls

Heaven has no ears to hearken to piteous plaints
From cracked lips and blistered tongues
They push their trade until soles run raw
Waifs with scarred heels hide in scaly shadows
Oh, what lassitude shrouds the night air
In the blazing red light of a false sunrise

I appreciate the inclusion of so many sensations - sounds, colors, touch, etc. Very picturesque with a lot of going ons. Makes it all the more interesting. Nicely done.

the theme you selected here is red...some may find it light red...some others dark...but the language you use here is perfect, could be there no arguement over it...neat poem presentation of your thoughts...10

'Trash' could have been a bit harsh, but, I was referring to the low-life of different nationalities who frequent the places of nocturnal delights in our red light districts.

Eddie, On second thought, white, yellow, and brown trash? ? ? ....sorry! It just hit me about this 'trash'....yet every poet is allowed to his/her own expression of thought....someone said once 'Poetry is not knowing, but feeling; although there may be wisdom in the poem, it must be felt, not merely understood. The poet is not describing or analyzing a subject, but offering his vision of it.'...so I suppose 'trash' it is....I don't know why I find that the word is so judgemental, so harsh...not a lecture...
