Not Half

Before Spenser,
'feared' was also 'adreaded'.

For rhetoric and rhyme
(and concision) ,
after him it was also 'adrad'.

'In times of yore goblins were adrad, '
to Spenser, would sound not half bad.

'Not half bad' is an expression that I like. It makes an understatement about something you like. A poem which probes the depths of language, linguistics.
