Not In My Backyard Poem by Mark Heathcote

Not In My Backyard

Not in my backyard
Am I ever going to forget you?
Not when the stars are shining.
Victorious and ever-young
Not when the moon is vivacious.
And you remain headstrong.

Not in my backyard
Am I ever going to forget you?
Such arum lilies as you
Make me feel blue
Because I fear touching your purity.
And turn it rancid something gone -askew.

Not in my backyard
Am I ever going to forget you?
Darling, I don't want to ruin you.
Not if you don't want me to.
Darling, I don't want to imprison you.
I've got no locks or keys, I promise you.

Not in my backyard
Will I hurt you?
Not in my backyard
Will I ever leave you?
If you don't want me to
Not in my backyard
Will I ever lie to you?
Not in my backyard
Will you ever worry about anything?
Not as long as you wear my ring.
And don't make me pay every day
Feeling some kind -of eternal pain.
I'll love you as my wife.
I can't speak any higher with free will.
But I will love you even better than you will.
