O Thou Fantail Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

O Thou Fantail

Rating: 5.0

O thou Fantail

You might become ‘nother sparrow,
Each day getting harder to see,
From playful tail, name you borrow,
Your short and sweet call charms many.

It's you why small birds pleasant seem,
Expert-like smooth in air you sail,
Your sweet whistling call, I deem,
Does help me spot you, O Fantail.

To like you still, we need no reason,
The way you catch live food in air,
Zeroing down like a champion,
O makes you a bird rather rare.

O music maker yon compare
Marvelling with your melody,
You sing and fly with unique flair
That audible from afar be.

Upright tall tail— what sets you apart,
Much atypical be your voice,
White spots you wear where dwells your heart,
And patches on wings, ah what poise!

Musician of course so special,
A sprinter still you are no less,
What's your secret? Is it long tail?
Perhaps it gives you speed with grace.

Yon, I see a twain in search of food—
Parents in pair— for new-born guest,
And born when monsoon unfolds good,
And then I find your cone-like nest.

A sweet singer you doubtless are,
And chirpy like friendly sparrows,
I like how with big birds you spar,
Quick, you chase like guided arrows.

In my esteem, O beauteous bird,
Others come but second and third.

A fine poem about the beautiful bird fantail - -Your love for the bird as well as your concern for their dwindling number have been nicely expressed in this poem.
