O Zahid, You Thirst For Happiness Poem by Mohammad Younus

O Zahid, You Thirst For Happiness

O Zahid, you thirst for happiness
Beyond this life, in Paradise.
Yet, it is unfair to seek fair maidens
In a distant realm to quench your desire!

O Mulla, do not scare me with my today!
For tomorrow is but an echo of today.
When my today is bright,
I am hopeful my tomorrow will shine as well.
And if my today is dark, it is merely
The lingering shadow of yesterday.

I refuse to wait for tomorrow
To drink from the springs of Paradise.
I seek Selsebil and Kowsar here and now,
Their waters sweeter than honey,
More pleasing than the finest wine.

But these springs lie within my heart's depths,
Where true freedom, peace, contentment,
Love, and joy reside.
Nowhere but within the paradise of the heart.

Let me emerge from the hell of this world today,
And step into paradise now,
For there is no need to wait for tomorrow.
Trust me.
