Objectively Excusing Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Objectively Excusing

Rating: 5.0

Objectively excusing,
Those who have gained status.
And to do with a refusing,
To acknowledge what was done.
Is a giving certain people,
Exit doors to run.

Objectively excusing,
Fraud deceiving deeds.
To look away and then pretend,
This nobody sees.
Although the damage left,
Leaves a wreckage of a mess.
People who have wealth,
Always blame somebody else.

'What I did to do...
Had been for the people.'

-What people? -

'The people who believe,
Everything I say.
And...
With loyalty.'

-But you are wrong.
And this so many know.-

'But they are not the ones,
Under a bus I'll throw to crush.'

-And that...
To do to prove is what? -

'I have...
Status!
I have...
Money and approval!
I have...
Status!
That objectively excuses,
What I do.'

-That's a narcissistic ego,
Way to live.-

'Envy and jealously?
Is never an admired attribute.
And defending against those,
Painfully seething with it...
Makes it difficult for me,
To enjoy what I crave the most! '

-And...
What might that be? -

'Stirring up conflict and division.
Done to do,
As if it breaks my heart.
You have no idea,
The anguish.
And the suffering I go through,
Lieing to myself and others.
When announcing publicly,
How much my activities...
Can bring me to the brink,
Of actually feeling to have...
An emotion to express.'

-Well...
At least the attempt is there! -

'Where? '

-Inside of you! -

'Oh.
Whew!
Don't scare me like that.
I thought the attempt,
Was beginning...
To make an appearance.
Without my approval given! '

-Unlike your impulses.-

'Don't be a nasty hater.
That would be too much,
For me and 'Him' to handle.'

-Him?
Him who? -

'You know...
'Him'!
My altered ego! '

-Oh God! -

'Now, don't be insolent.
Say that with 'praise'! '
