Oceanward Course Poem by AFFAQ NABI

Oceanward Course

Old river, you recall your covert source,
Where first you broke from shale in lucid birth;
You wind athwart time with unexhausted force,
Inscribing eternal motion on the patient earth.

By fractured shale and valleys stripped and bare,
You thread a channel no human hand could frame;
What erstwhile lay mute now breathes in your care,
And fields awaken, greener than their name.

But we rush on, undone by fleeting need,
Our restless grasp outpaces what we gain;
Old river You falter not, nor outrun your speed,
But shape the ages midst a noiseless strain.

Till, free of self, your closing currents grow,
And join the Atlantic, vast in endless flow.
