October - Light Rain Poem by Seema Jayaraman

October - Light Rain

Under an inky dark canopy
I hear the rustling of leaves
a light patter, a little pitter
Uplifts a ruffling breeze
Stirring skirts of sleeping trees

A wave of light notes, heavenly
wafts in and swells up, intoxicating
announces the heady swill of -
Parched earth lightly drenched
By late October retreating rain

My heart exultate, thirsts for more
oh for a downpour, a drowning
I' be a peacock unfurling iridescence
Dancing free, you will find carefree
With nature's nectar raining down on me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Last night I heard the leaves rustle, next there was this heady intoxicating essence wafting up - parched earth lightly drenched by a light light rain in October. This year the monsoons have failed in Mumbai, the city is already reeling under severe water cut measures already in action even as the Monsoon receeds without touching the city. So the five minute drizzle was a welcome heady experience especially the undescribable smell of dry earth lightly sprinkled by rain. luv that intoxicating heavenly smell which no man made perfume has been able to bottle.
