Ode To Lights On Trees Poem by Doris Cornago

Ode To Lights On Trees

Oh the lights above our heads
Above the ground we tread
Make us feel lighted up
Inside, making the
Darkness flee
Discordant
In that
Moment
Of glee, fancy
Free, making good
Our escape from the
World until someone comes
To turn them off, the moment flees

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On a cold and dark day, people are cheered to see lights on trees so they can see their way. But what happens when these lights are turned off? This also criticizes our habit of using artificial means of bringing cheer into our lives when what we truly need is the internal spiritual light which nobody can turn off.
