Ode To Victor Hugo (97) 'the Miserable' miserable Fantine

By Freeyad Ibrahim

The figure out whole history that impressed me most is Victor Hugo
The story of Fantine with the iron- hearted Javert that my attention does draw
Fantine crouched with her bosom half naked
Hands together clasped.
Face with tears draped
A single powerless mother so much by poverty and agony bitten, by cruelty torn
Her words pouring out in a low whispering heartrending flow
Bending forward to press the hem of Javert's coat to her lips
A sight that does more pain to a body slashed with whips
She might have melted the heart of stone
But she could not melt a heart of bone?
Is that all you have to say? He replied,
Gross.
Then off You go
You are getting six months
She collapsed on the floor
Moaning: mercy, melting, moaning more
I am moaning too monsieur Hugo
Your words melted my heart
Mercy, O, Mr. Hugo!
