Life was flight;
wings aflutter at his side
nests made
chicks hatched
ever on the forage for food
Years passed
in sunshine and storm
their family grown
flew off on their own.
Now two old birds
on familiar shore
huddle together still
against life’s chill
season in and season out
it’s what their love
was always about.
