Set In Stone Poem by Carolyn Brunelle

Set In Stone

Rating: 5.0

She needed and dreamed of more,
But a woman’s life was set in stone;
Marriage was judged as better
For her
Than living some life of her own.

Her life filled with hard work
The raising of her children
Till they were grown;
Her youthful dreams faded,
Became about
Making them a good home.

But at the end of her days
Her children gathered to scatter her ashes;
Knowing how ‘mama’ wanted to roam,
They set her free to the winds at last
Never again to be set in stone.

Good poem, well stated. I could not have said it better. Read mine - Mother Dear, O Mother Dear - Adeline

Back then, that was regarded as the norm'. How ignorant society was and biased against the wishes and needs and rights of women. We live in a more equal society now, alas, to late for some. A sad poem, lovely written...and thankyou
