Old Friends Poem by Ray Hansell

Old Friends

Rating: 5.0

Sitting at a table
With a life long friend
Remembering old stories
That never seem to end

We had great times together
Way back in our youth
Remembering the times
When we failed to tell the truth

We knew if the truth were known
We'd have to pay the price
Back then we both knew
The punishment would not be nice

Now, as the sun slowly sets
On this warm and happy day
Wishing it could last forever
But knowing there's no way

As this day comes to a close
In the twilight of our years
We both know what's coming
But neither of us has a fear

We have known for a long time
What the next phase of life holds
We are just very thankful
We both had the chance to grow old
