Old Peter Who Is Grieving For His Dog Poem by Francis Duggan

Old Peter Who Is Grieving For His Dog

He is grieving for his terrier old Peter
For thirteen years his dog his truest friend
He bought him at the pet shop when his wife Mariah passed on
But every life has to come to an end.

His brown and white jack russell he christened Dandy
A friendly and a dapper little one
Those thirteen years they seemed to pass so quickly
Time ticks along when all is said and done.

His daughter Mandy is living in England
She is forty nine with a son of twenty four
It has been seven years since he last see them
And perhaps he may not see them never more.

He looks fit and well for one in his late seventies
Though one can say his better days long gone
And the passing years they tell on everybody
And old father time he keeps on ticking on.

In his one room basement flat he lives alone old Peter
And life for him has been quite sad of late
With his dog Dandy he will never more go walking
And he is grieving for his little mate.
