Old Photographs Poem by Freya Grace

Old Photographs

ancient photographs
of people i don’t know

unfamiliar faces
staring back at me
a moment long ago
frozen in time

nothing is different
nothing is the same

who are these strangers
what were they like

immortal smiles
and eyes
watching me
for eternity

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My grandmother emptied out her storage locker and I helped her sort through it. Many of the boxes contained old pictures from her life- some dating back to the late 1800's. I began wondering how a person can be a person, be alive, then centuries later all that is left is ink stains on paper in the shape of you.

I've had this thought very often, individuals that meant so much To someone all those years ago, memories lived on through a photograph. I enjoyed your poem x well done!
