Omotoyosi Poem by Adams King

Omotoyosi

Rating: 5.0

Last night the serpent visited Eden
Tempted her to eat from the fruit unlawful
and forbidden to the garden
In a paradise untarnished and beautiful

Last night she broke the laws
And left cracked the tortoise shell
The heaven spits out virtuous blood
When the walls barricading it fell

Last night the coconut was broken
To bleed out the waters of innocence
And the gold in the hole was stolen
All in the name of love or pretence

Omotoyosi the untilled farmland
The pride of the full moon that rises
A dream food for every husband
Her mother proudly praises

Omotoyosi the unbitten apples
The pride of the full moon that rises
Standing are your unsucked nipples
Her father proudly praises

How will she tell her mother
That the calabash now has a hole
How will she tell her father
That the apple is not in a whole

A bite was stolen last night
By a teeth with tongue of honey
He made broad the way once tight
When the night was young and lonely

How her mother's prima pride
Have become a scarfed shame
For how long will she hide
scared to bare the blows of blame
