On Being Bitten By A Mosquito Poem by Francis Duggan

On Being Bitten By A Mosquito

She bit me in the face last night as of my blood she took her fill
And she escaped me with her life since her I tried to kill
She needed a droplet of my blood for to help her for her eggs in water to lay
The elusive female mosquito will die in a natural way.

I'm sort of glad her I did not kill as her life is as good to her as mine is to mine
And if my blood helped her to do her natural thing that ought to suit me fine
Yet she left me feeling uncomfortable as she buzzed off into the night
For a half an hour I lay awake in bed scratching where she did bite.

She will be one with Nature in not too distant day
And she will be my equal when in Nature's bosom I too will lay
Her life is even briefer than the roses and the flowers
Who lose their beauty and die in the cold late Autumn showers.

That I feel glad I failed to kill her that may seem strange to say
That she buzzed off to lay her eggs in water not far away
Her daughters too may bite me my blood to them may taste better than good wine
For to insure their species survival though that may not suit me fine.
