On Duty Poem by Ima Ryma

On Duty

I've been specially trained to be
On guard for any poacher who
Dares to share time and place with me.
I'm real good at the job I do.
Wild animals in this preserve
Are protected by law, but still
Too many poachers have the nerve
To trespass here, seeking to kill
Just for a tusk or horn or skin
To sell in black markets that thrive.
I'm trained not to kill but to pin
The poacher till police arrive.

Hey poacher, I'm not your best friend.
This dog will dog you to your end.
