On His Death Bed, A Mystic Contemplated Poem by Mohammad Younus

On His Death Bed, A Mystic Contemplated

On his death bed, a mystic contemplated,
What if death ceased to be a part of life?
The death sent the message to him,
When he was gone to the other world:

Without shame, you were wishing for perpetual life,
When you were daily killing your life;
All the time you had stitched up your lips,
Little or nothing of truth did you speak;
You had plugged up your heart's ears,
Didn't hear the voiceless message.

You are the truth! You are immortal!
But you will have to meet me;
It will surely happen.
If not immediately, then eventually,
It will happen.
You will get a new lease of life;
Resurrection!
You are the living reality;
You will continue living,
Either in the paradise or in the hell;
Karma is the reality!
You will have to harvest,
The crop of your actions;
The action is what brings about,
The quality of your next life;
It is the real truth,
That you did not recognise.
