On Kingsley's ' The Sands O Dee' Poem by Francis Duggan

On Kingsley's ' The Sands O Dee'

The drowned young beauty Mary I imagine I do see
Each time I read Kingsley's 'The Sands O Dee'
The rowers rowing her body home from sea
The lines embedded in my memory
The rumbling waves blowing up a frothy foam
As lovely Mary calls her cattle home
In Charles Kingsley's poem she has lived for decades with a century
And she has far outlived her own mortality
Kingsley in his poem gave her enduring fame
And her's has become a legendary name
In the foggy twilight midst the loud ocean din
Across The Sands O Dee the tide is rolling in
And the huge surf waves blow up a white frothy foam
As the ghost of Mary calls her cattle home.
