On Our 50th Anniversary Poem by Sara Militello

On Our 50th Anniversary

Here is my toast to our enduring romance
begun subtle as summer thunder:

I recall the grandeur of your glance
as you gazed at me in gentle wonder.
Now, as night overtakes day the sea washes ashore ~
removes any gray that might try to score.
If I'd had a model or even a dream
neither could hold a candle compared to our theme!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was working in a hair styling shop. A woman was getting a manicure from my boss and I heard her say her husband was taking her out that evening to celebrate their 50 Anniversary. I sat in my chair and wrote this poem. I gave it to her as she left and told her she could use it in any card she would surely give her husband before the evening was over. She liked it enough to tell me she surely would include it in her card to her husband.

Before this I had not seen her husband in that shop but he became one of my customers until I retired several years later, from my own shop. They were a delightful couple.

Very nice! I was sure while reading - that you wrote it about yourself! because it is too happy a poem! and it is very difficult to write a happy poem sincerely if you are unhappy yourself.
