On Reading Romen Basu's The Surrendered Self Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

On Reading Romen Basu's The Surrendered Self

Published by Facet Books International, New York
In 1990,
Let us see what it is in Basu's book,
Opening with Prisoner, Whose? , Another Day, Market Place,
Honesty, Choice, Farewell, Reprimand, Tomorrow's Love,
Jubilee, Loyalty, Silence, A Couple, Fisher Woman, Anniversary,
Family, Relationship, Where on Earth? , Skull, Pencil Warrior,
Misunderstanding, Flowers, A Rainy May, The Shame and others
Before closing with the last, Outside the Window

But of the poems glimpsed through, pages turned over,
I like Prisoner, Choice, Farewell, Reprimand, Tomorrow's Love,
Loyalty, Silence, Relationship, Flowers, Conscience, Belfast,
Somewhere, Away, Talking to Self, Bells, Repentance, Vision, the most,
But cannot explain why,
If ask you, what did you understand,
How did you enjoy?

One who served the United Nations Organization for so long
And was a world traveller,
He dwelt far, lived overseas,
Wrote down his impressions
Living in different countries,
Climes and landscapes
He thought of poetry emanating

A modern poet, he is of a silence pervading the spirit,
One of the modern world and modern times,
Reflecting in his own way,
Seeing nature all around
Like a modern man with a modern perception and sensitivity,
There is a design, a flow of words,
But the meaning may be so deep within.
