On That Maui July Night Poem by Linda Barnes

On That Maui July Night

I remember like yesterday
When we had arrived
On that beautiful island
Under the Maui moonlight night

The build up of our excitement
Of what our eyes would see
Not even pictures in magazines
Could embrace our dreams

We walked along the beach
As the ocean crashed our feet
Looking for sand dollars
Tasting salt on our lips

Your hand in my hand
We were long lost lovers
Taking in all the beauty
That life could have offered

Caught up in that moment
We did not realize even then
That our lives as we knew it
Would come to an end

We gazed at the pacific ocean
Watched it meet the moon and stars
As my heart was already breaking
On that Maui July night
