On The Lawn, A Sonnet Poem by Linda Hepner

On The Lawn, A Sonnet

Rating: 5.0

Darling, sprawled beside me, not a care,
sleeping all afternoon while here around
lie strewn the clues of what you hoard up there:
texts and journals, articles abound,
like handy islands you can reach the moment
you awake, to complement a thought,
catch it evolving, or to glean a comment,
creating some connection you have sought.
Fecundity is what you deeply treasure
As I do buds that blossom, shoots that sprout,
grasses left to grow and seed at leisure,
which though not manicured and maybe flout
the patterns, answers, paths through right and wrong,
fill both our lives with scents and bees and song.

Sounds like a good life! Certainly an idyllic image! I can just picture it... But wait - is that you on a laptop furious working on a poem over your sleeping beauty? ; ^) -chuck
