Once I Thought Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

I once thought that love was ok.
I once thought it was no big deal.
I then fell in love, and was devastated.
I now know what love really is.

I once thought I was miserable.
I once thought that things were bad.
I then found out what bad was.
I now know what happy is.

I once thought life was what it was.
I once thought it would never change.
I then had a nervous breakdown.
I now know what it really was.

I am now a happy person.
I am in love with a wonderful man.
I can not imagine life without him.
I know what truth, love, and happiness consist of.

Those hard, cold, sad days are getting dimmer and not so painful.
The lies and cheating, the berating and abuse that left scars so deep, are fading.
All I want to see is the happiness, and the fantastic future ahead.
You have replaced all the bad, the sad, and the torment;
With happiness, love, and laughter. I thank you for all that you are, and thank God
For making you, you.
