One Day May We Return

one day may we return to a language
as was our Beginning when He said clearly
Let there be Light
and light was the first poem;

return to a language
where there are no words for sorrow
for thieves that come in the white dawn
and slaughter the waking dream
for the devastations recurring and recurring

no folktales with slathering wolves at the door
no word even for a slight reprimand

in that language we will finally be free
no word for fetters, for the messengers of death
will have fled
the bells only tolling for happiness
