One Miracle After Another Poem by Denis Martindale

One Miracle After Another

One miracle after another,
Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,
My life began within the home,
From which I seldom chose to roam.
Yet school was next in line for me,
Thus parted from my family,
Then work, of course, assumed control,
To dominate and take its toll.

And sickness splattered now and then,
This life's white canvas once again,
No more the pristine state it was,
No wonder I, at times, was cross.
Then old age bid my youth goodbye,
Disabled years caused me to sigh,
Then sixty-five years limped around,
Before my time when Heaven-bound.

Yet in-between, the Twilight Years,
The damaged eyes, the damaged ears,
The damaged teeth, the damaged neck,
The damaged life, the damaged deck.
The joys for me were few and small,
Sometimes life drove me up the wall,
No wife, no child, no friend at all,
Still waiting for a miracle.
