Once I feared what was to come
Once I feared mortality
Each step I took
Was one step closer to death

I no longer fear death

Death is an awakening
From the dream called life
An awakening unto a paradise
Where lost love is reunited

A time of joy
A time of peace
A time of rest

As I write
A calm comes over me
I'm not one poem closer to death
I'm one poem closer to heaven!


Today is my fiftieth birthbay. Normally, it is a time of regret. I lost my son two weeks ago and I realize I'm not getting older. I'm getting closer. Closer to holding my baby in my arms once again. His name was Andrew Eichen and I loved him more than my feeble words can express.
