The 10,401st Day Of World War 17 Poem by Bob and Alex Eichen

The 10,401st Day Of World War 17

It's been going on for so long
The war
But It'll be over soon
I'm the last man left alive
On our side
From my trench
I look through the scope of my rifle
I only see one soldier left alive
On their side
I look again, he's waving a white flag
We meet on the battlefield
The last two soldiers
Of the last war
He takes off his helmet
He's a she
She's a woman
A young woman
We both know what this means
We could be like Adam and Eve
We could start again
We could replenish the earth
With humans
Once again, humans and human civilization can rise up and rebuild
We both smile, softly
Slowly
We both raise our rifles and fire!
