Only By Strangers Poem by Shalom Freedman

Only By Strangers

I seem to want to be known
Only by strangers
I do not want those I most care about
To know about my doubts and fears
My unanswerable questions
My despairing thoughts -

I rather dream of the recognition of strangers
Who perhaps can recognize in themselves
Some of my questioning troubled thoughts -

I want those I love
To be better and happier than I am-

I have however been wrong in so many things
I may perhaps be a fool in this too-
The false protection of others close to me
Who might really know me much better than I believe
And who care for me nonetheless-

Good poem. Do everything. Confide in those you know and embrace strangers. The strangers are in your mind since in front of God we are never strangers all made to look after each other especially " In times like these" .
