Only When A Nation Of Fools Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Only When A Nation Of Fools

We elect fools into leadership
Like prayers of an unbeliever
We, as a people, are with foolishness
Wouldn't it be wise that we stopped blaming it on demons?
For clearly by choices, we're a nation of fools

We eat what we don't have
And expect to have what we cannot afford
Then we wonder why the dragon is on our necks
Conveniently, we've blamed it on all by ourselves
Meanwhile, greedy leadership is devouring our future with reckless abandon
While we smile at evil
