Orange Poem by Jackie Chou

Orange

It can be a pretty word-

The color of saccharine fruits,
sweet and sour coating on breaded meat.

A cat named Garfield.

Or rust stains on bars
and metal bed frames in prison cells.

Women inmates in orange uniforms,
clustered like a field of marigolds,
in a sector for the mentally ill.

The general population of the prison,
clad in blue.
