Our Doctors Are As Good As The Best

abroad for health care?
the in thing among leaders
the cost - state to bear

if critical - fine;
Parikkar is justified
we should draw a line

but for root canal
to Singapore- seems a joke
that is a no ball

a status symbol
to keep up with the Joneses
cost, let state not dole

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In India, there is a tendency for our political leaders to go abroad for medical treatment and surgery. The fact is the standards of medical care in India and the quality of doctors are among the best in the world, except for some specialized and emergency care. The leaders also manage to charge the expenses to the Government.
Keeping up with the Joneses is an idiom in many parts of the English-speaking world referring to the comparison to one's neighbor as a benchmark for social class or the accumulation of material goods. To fail to "keep up with the Joneses" is perceived as demonstrating socio-economic or cultural inferiority.

dole- to give or distribute as a charity —usually used with' out'; eg- dole out food to needy families Merriam Webster

Recently one Minister had root canal treatment in Singapore- state bore the cost.

Manohar Parikkar is the Cief Minister of Goa State. He is acutely suffering from Cancer. He has gone to US for specialised care. This is quite justified.

no ball - an illegal ball delivery in cricket - one run is added to batting side.
