Paddy Mcsweeney Poem by Francis Duggan

Paddy Mcsweeney

In the old graveyard in Millstreet Town Paddy McSweeney's remains lay
He truly was a gentleman in every sort of way
An old citizen of Church Street and a very well liked man
As human life it does go his was a lengthy span.

A very wise and clever man is the Paddy i recall
One who never harmed anyone in any way at all
For to help out other people he often went out of his way
And if there's a heaven he is there no need for him to pray.

A religious and spiritual person yet to him a humorous side
And all around Duhallow he was known far and wide
To the gifts of honesty and compassion through life he remained true
And the pathway to the higher self he always did pursue.

In his beloved Town of Millstreet fond memories of him will remain
One hopes he had a peaceful end and did not suffer any pain
He was a thorough gentleman untainted by conceit
One of the nicest people that one could wish to meet.

Paddy McSweeney is no longer with us that does seem sad to say
In the old graveyard at the West End his final remains lay
Around the Town of Millstreet he will never more be seen
But memories of the man he was will remain evergreen.
