Palestinian Flower Woman Poem by Abu Sufian

She turned grenades into flowers
Hatred into love
Aggression into compassion
Ugliness into beauty of flowers.

Her flowers bloomed in the womb
of grenades and fire.
Her flower symbolizes peace
amidst chaos and destruction
amidst fruitless attempts of
useless leaders to bring peace.

Note: This poem is based on a Palestinian Mother Abu Rahmeh who, after losing her Son Bassem Abu Rahmeh (30) , shot and killed by the Israeli Army in April,2009, grows a garden in tear gas canisters) . The poem is published in the Canadian magazine, 'Tuck Magazine' (Oct 13,2016) .
