Pandemic Blues Poem by Alan Sandham

Pandemic Blues

Rating: 5.0

I've got the viral blues,
Empty supermarket,
Panic-buying,
Out of the fire into pan-frying,
I wouldn't want to be in my shoes,
blues.

I've got the under-lockdown,
Under-funded,
Under-medicated,
Politicians spinning
Policies un-pre-meditated,
Fake and reconstructed news,
blues.

I've got the over-70,
Cupboard empty,
Running out of toilet paper,
Half-dead from sanitiser vapor,
End of a civilization caper,
blues.

I've got the help-me-if-I'm-breathing-badly,
Cheer me up if I'm talking sadly,
Dance around and sing quite madly,
Hoping that the next top-species
Doesn't just sit in its own feces,
And does a better job,
blues.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is inspired by our British response to the corona virus pandemic of 2020, and borrows its style from "To Whom It May Concern (Tell Me Lies About Vietnam) " by Adrian Mitchell, which seems appropriate, but is much better. See it on Poemhunter. I might wonder how he would have written about people panic-buying toilet paper, unsurprised, I should think.

How very well constructed Alan. Here, across the pond, seniors are being so well cared for! Highly creative......, I hear the panic buying is here, I am in isolation, so not in the markets. The USA has more than enough. People here need to chill out. You have a great sense of humor..., a 10 my friend, Panagiota Romios

Thank you so much for your appreciation, it came much too easily, but I suppose it's at the front of all our minds. I'm not in isolation myself, but I've a friend who is and must keep two feet away from her own husband, use her own crockery, and not walk the dog. All too believable. I am hoping for the best for all of us. Stay safe.

Thank you so very much for reading my work, it came really too easily for comfort, so your appreciation is more than reassuring.
