Papiya, My Chirping Girl Poem by Mark Heathcote

Papiya, My Chirping Girl

Papiya, my chirping girl
Papiya, my chirping bird
What are you chirping for?

Papiya, where did you fly?
Papiya, why did you leave
The silence is an intolerant bore.

Papiya, what do you take me for?
Papiya, I'm not a plaything for a day.
I'm not now and then, nevermore.

Papiya, won't you chirp for me some more?
Papiya, won't you sing a song to me?
Open your larynx and express expressions -joyous.

Papiya cuckoo an echo eternal
Papiya sings to the universe
That imbues all of your best verses.

Papiya, my chirping girl
Papiya, my chirping bird
What are you chirping for?

Papiya, your songs may only be a dream
Papiya, but all the words you sang
Are finally bound together somewhere
Without a broken note about where you are.

Where you've been and what you've seen
Papiya, it's the heartbeat of this world.
Papiya, and it's every heart breath you have left.
That hasn't as yet fallen bereft.

That hasn't shielded its light from the morning rose
And hasn't fallen victim to the moon in her trebling throws.
Papiya, sing about your plight, your dignity,
Your virginity, your beauty, purity never let go...

Papiya, my chirping girl
Papiya, my chirping bird
What are you chirping for is there anything more?
Is there anything more?
is there anything more?
