The quest that motivates a person
to reach the unreachable star

the drive that inspires anyone
to dream the impossible dream

the ambition that leads someone
to follow his heart and reap the goal

so powerful and yet challenging
to somebody who desires to win
in this kind of endeavor that honors
success to those who persevere

This led the first woman to disobey
the firm command of the Lord
when Satan entices her thirst
to eat the forbidden fruit

This led Hitler to do the atrocities
he created believing that he was doing
justice to the followers of Jesus by
the extermination of the Jewish race

This led numerous people to rebel against
the established authorities because of their
unquenchable need for power to rule
the majority with an iron hand

This led many dictators of the world
to govern their nations and eradicate
their enemies in the name of justice
which was perverted in false freedom

This led Putin to invade Ukraine
depriving the citizens of peace and
security that they once enjoyed
because of his greediness and pride

This led you and me to discriminate
people of color, creed and orientation
as we uphold the beliefs that we are
doing this for the common good of all

Can't we just stop for a moment
and think if what we are reacting to
is proper, right and fair to everyone

Can we not come to our senses
and evaluate what we have done
to these people whom we oppress

Can we stop this now before it will be
too late to grasp that these cruelty
we forced on our fellow human beings
are too destructive within our midst
