Pegging Socks On The Washing Line Poem by Victoria Gawler

Pegging Socks On The Washing Line

Rating: 5.0

Pegging socks on the washing line
I watch the sheep
And wonder
Would I like to live such a simple life
Know nothing of the world
Beyond here?

They move with stillness across the green
Choosing new spots
To be taken
Endlessly finding fresh herbs chew
Are they always wanting
Never sated?

And then I see at the edge of the field
A ewe's face appear
And consider
Does grass over there look better than here?
Over she jumps
With no dither.

Maybe her choices aren't so different to mine
She grabs the moment
Life gives
Pleasures may be small, but pleasures they are
She know in her heart
She must live.

A philosophical piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely brought forth with clarity of thought and mind. Insightful, focused and factual. Thanks for sharing, Victoria.
