People Today Poem by Wilma Horne

The world in which we live
Is sick and dying
And people dont really care
They keep going on with their everyday lives
But if they took the time to look around
And truly see
They would be surprised
For what they dont see is: sickness, starvation, abuse, and so much more

If they would take the time
Our world would be a much better place to live
Cause they would feed the hungry, help those abused and neglected
And help find a cure
But they dont
Cause it doesnt 'affect' them directly
But what they dont also get is that it indirectly affects them

That abused child they refused to help
Could one day become a murderer and they could be a victim
Or the starving child they didnt help to feed
Could one day have to feed to them
And what about the sick and dying child
They could one day become a doctor and have to care for him

If they would only think of this
And help the world
It would be a better place
