Perhaps One Day Humankind Will Understand Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

Perhaps One Day Humankind Will Understand

Perhaps one day humankind will understand-
the weight of the wind pressing against silence,
the quiet grief of oceans,
the trees speaking in green tongues we refuse to hear.

Perhaps one day,
we will learn the shape of the stars patience,
how they hold their breath for centuries,
watching us carve lines in the dust
as if permanence was ours to claim.

Perhaps one day,
the earth will no longer tremble beneath us,
not from fear,
but relief-
as we finally listen.
