Pessimist Or Realist Poem by JoAnn McGrath

Pessimist Or Realist

Pessimist or Realist

Some people call me a pessimist
Someone who expects the worst
Or am I a realist
Accepting and dealing with my curse

I understand it is wrong
to not look at things in a positive way
But always being dealt more pain
Life sometimes seems in disarray

With repetitions of receiving sour songs
One begins to build a protection wall
A defense if you will
When comes around the next hard fall

So maybe I expect the worst
and that way I'm not let down
When I do receive good news
I'll have a smile instead of a frown

I still haven't given up hope
That tomorrow maybe a better day
It's just hard to forget my history
and look at life that way
