Pet Snake Second Thought Poem by Larry Schreckengost

Pet Snake Second Thought

Now that's GREAT
You've caught a snake
Against my best advice
Have you thought about the mice
It isn't very nice

Yes, a snake won't track or mud the rug
And I'm pretty sure snakes don't snore
And snakes never bark
When friends come to the door

But I don't think snakes can sit
Or chase a ball that you've hit
And snakes never ever try to escape
To shed their skins on bedroom drapes

You're ready for some wiggly fun
A desire not shared by everyone
Our home is not for snakes to run

Snakes have no need for girls perfume
So keep it out of sister's room
Or your snake is sure to meet its doom
Dispatched by your Grandmother's broom

In any case
You have the family to face
Asking if they're willing to embrace
Living with a pet snake
