Pictureless Frame Poem by Judy Jones

Pictureless Frame

I try to picture you
Even though you don't exist
Such a wasted effort
To build a frame
for a picture that will never fit
A frame with uneven sides
Corners that penetrate the boundaries
Gaps that allow me to see through it
I'll trim the sides
Only to find that I have cut them too short
And now the picture is awkward and bent
Struggling to stay within its walls
I can only fixate on the ugliness
of the frame that hold it in place
I can't get it right, can I?
