Pinning The Butterfly Poem by Susan LeGree

Pinning The Butterfly

Rating: 5.0

Trying to hold onto
and preserve what one
loves and feels deeply,
is like trying to pin the
butterfly.
The collector knows
the butterfly can only
thrive for a very short
time, freely in the world.
And so he pins its
unique beauty in
place for what he hopes
is forever
Is this what we try to
accomplish with art and
music; with our written
words and the love
we feel?

The trick is to pin the butterfly without killing it, because then you aren't showing the butterfly to anyone but rather the remains of it.

Susan, you pose a lovely question in the most delightful way, but sadly I have no answer for it. Top marks and thanks for sharing this with us. Hugs David
