Pirate's Demise Poem by Alexander Beebe

Pirate's Demise

Pirate's Demise

Pirates on the rotting dock
Arms outstretched to salty seas
The wet embrace taunts their mind
With visions, spells, and richly finds

Many man has left the landing
Floating out to distant shore
Few did find what she kept hidden
Deep inside her locker door

Ghostly chills still roam her veins
A subtle warning for lofty men
She'll blow a kiss of moist enticement
The depths of which you cannot win

And still they sluff her dire warnings
Her spell out runs their drunken thoughts
Another wave upon her shoulders
Of men who scoff at lessons taught

In vessels built of wood and tar
With sails that cage the windy tide
The men on board with naïve ambition
Just soggy fodder for this lady's might

And so they sail to fill their purse
With treasures, rum and dirty deeds
No pause they give to her excitement
From head strong winds and churning weeds

But now their veins turn cold and sober
The lady's lure has turned to fear
No rudder left to guide their crimes
Her salty sea now mixed with tears

Alas the sheets rip from their mast
The timbers snap from weighted breath
The bow and stern part from each other
The Pirates find her treasured depth.
