Play Our Hearts Poem by Javi Lopez

Play Our Hearts

It’s been a while
Since you’ve been on my mind
I look at your picture
Memories not too kind

I can recall back then
When we were tight
When we hugged and smiled
Called each other every night

I couldn’t say i don’t miss it
But i know it’s for the best
Bury it all deep
and put it to rest

Never easy to let go
but i had to do it
don’t misconstrue this
I’m past all that

But I can’t ever forget
What we had was magic
How it ended so abruptly
Seemed so tragic

Although I’ve moved on
I still hold a little
In my head
And in my heart

Life was different then
Days were always sunny
Jokes were always funny
and we were in love

We held on tight
Separation was painful
Came together again
We’d never wanna leave each other

And I can’t ever forget
What we had was magic
How it ended so abruptly
Seems so tragic

Although I’ve moved on
I still hold a little
In my head
And in my heart

Snap to the present
Like it never happened
You’re about as down as me
Depressed and cutting deep

More than skin deep
Reaches your soul
Taking chances
till you reach your goal

Don’t know what it could be
I could only imagine
Looking back at it all
You wonder how it happened

and you think you know it all
But you just need a hand
dreams real simple
we fly off to neverland

but it’s only a dream
never real as it could be
never talk to me
masking the unhappy

that you hide from the world
beautiful but darkened girl
and I can’t ever forget
What we had was magic
How it ended so abruptly
Seems so tragic

Although I’ve moved on
I still hold a little
In my head
And in my heart

with ties cut entirely
and eye contact hard
day in and day out
we play this card
play ourselves
and play our hearts
