Playground Memories Poem by Melody McKinstrie

Playground Memories

Playground Memories

When I see a playground
I get overcome with memories
Mostly good,
And some very poignant.
I think of the time I took a picture
Of my dog William.
At Halloween trick or treating.
We stopped at the playground
On our way home.
It is on my bookshelf
Along with his ashes in an urn.

Just recently
I played with my niece Madison
And my nephew Jamison
As well as my nephew Nelson.
What a great time we had.
I learnt a few things.
My how smart this trio was
For their respective ages.

Jamison recited his Mom's telephone number
At the age of 4
And counted to 10 in Spanish.
Madison at almost three
Could count to twenty
As we made a game of it
As I pushed her in a swing.
And Nelson, he was just the wonderful
Kid that I remembered
Just a little older with more athleticism.

There are many many memories
Of playground times
Out in the fresh air,
Laughing,
Enjoying life
Without too many cares.
Until thirst or hunger or another bother
Or just a sense of boredom
Take over.

When you see children at a playground
Take a moment to smile
Remember the times you spent at one.
Wish for many many more
For you and your loved ones.
