Poeme D'automne.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Poeme D'automne.(Translation) .

Les feuilles d'automne
Sont trop lourdes de couleur.
Les arbres minces
Sur le Chemin Vulcan
Sont habilles d'ecarlate et d'or
Comme des jeunes courtesanes
Qui attendent leurs amants.
Mais bientot
Les vents d'hiver
Effeuilleront leurs corps nus
Et alors
Les caresses vives, de gresil-aiguille
Du froid
Seront leur seul
Amour.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Like a painter, Hughes shows a picture of autumn which is passing into winter. The coloured leaves on the trees will fall to the ground, helped by the cold winter winds blowing sharply. Then the trees's only love will be their only love, no longer the bright-coloured leaves. Thus Hughes puts the last few strokes to his painting.
