Poetry For Children: Best Day Of The Year! ©

I woke up this morning, to an air of surprise,
the sky was still yawning, with stars in her eyes!
Bright sunbeams were glancing, at my window pane,
all glitter and gold, without any restrain!

As if someone was calling me, to be wide awake,
and the air was delicious, with scents of a cake,
that was brimming with plums, and freshly ground spice,
and raisins and currants, and everything nice!

I bounced out of bed, now, what could it be?
What wondrous day was in store for me?
And why all the fuss? Just look at those trees,
All swaying and dancing, in sweet breathless breeze!

And the birds were a-flutter, in a sky of light blue,
They seemed to be singing, a song that I knew;
An air of excitement, rushed through my heart,
This day was amazing! What a wonderful start!

Then I heard Mama giggle, and something went POP!
Dada was laughing, as if he could not stop!
Now, what were they upto, there was mischief afoot!
They warned me last night, I was to stay put!

I heard rustling of cellophane, that sweet wrapping noise,
as if Santa was wrapping, brand new Christmas toys;
I crept out bed, just tingling to know,
the reason that today was shining aglow...

Then Mama and Dada burst in to say...
Good Morning Sweetheart! Happy Birthday! "
